How to Keep Busy Until Jesus Comes Again

(The following is the June 30 devotional from my Next Step Devotions book. Before reading it, I suggest you read Romans 12 and pay close attention to verses 9-21.)

Have you ever been bored because of nothing to do? If we take Romans 12:9-21 seriously, we should never lack something to do. Following these commands would transform our lives, relationships, churches, communities, and the world. If we do as Paul says:

  • We focus less on ourselves and more on others, serving them with honor and respect.
  • We express joy during difficult circumstances and demonstrate the everyday impact of knowing Christ.
  • We replace hatred and critical attitudes with compassion for all, including those who persecute us.
  • We do not consider ourselves too good to get involved with the needs of others, regardless of their situation.
  • We do our part to live at peace with others, even if they do not do their part to live at peace with us.
  • We trust God that vengeance is his and not ours to carry out.
  • We have eyes that see the needs of others and hearts that respond compassionately to meet those needs.
  • We do not allow ourselves to succumb to the evil ways of this sinful world but become vessels through whom God transforms the world and overcomes evil.

We have an incredible opportunity to live lives transformed by Christ. When we do, we will see him change our world for his glory and our good.

We should never be bored without anything to do. The above list should keep us more than busy until Jesus comes again.

Next Step:
Read Romans 12:9-21 aloud twice. Pray that God reveals ways you need to be more Christlike, obeying his Word more faithfully.
